One tree planted
On March 24th, Sixty7.Green participated in the Global Supply Chain Sustainability Summit and a tree was planted in our behalf on Earth Day.
Earth Day cemented many major environmental achievements and in 2016 signed the United Nations Paris Agreement. This Agreement is the world’s most important and comprehensive climate agreement and aims to limit global warming to below 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century.
This year Earth Day asks everyone to ‘Invest In Our Planet’ and Sixty7.Green is a keen supporter focussing on helping businesses contribute to Earth Day’s global ambition.
For 2022, the movement highlights the importance of collaboration and investing our resources and energy in the race to net-zero. Crucially, Earth Day notes that, “we need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet.”
Climate change is undoubtedly the biggest environmental emergency caused by humanity. The latest reports published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warn that global temperatures will very likely rise 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2040, a direct result of humankind’s thirst for fossil-fuelled power. Despite the progress on climate pledges, it is clearly not enough, as emissions are still on an significant upward trend. This, despite having the tools and opportunities to drastically reduce emissions whilst still being able to generate the power needed to improve the livelihoods of more and more people. But change and weening ourselves off our fossil-fuel reliance remains the greatest global challenge.
But, public pressure and civil society mobilisation can drive institutional and systemic changes. Whether it be in the fast fashion industry or car manufacturing industry, all companies and all individuals can help shift us away from fossil-fuels and towards renewables. Everyone has a role to play.
We are excited by our partnership with Earth Day. It aligns to our values, it makes good sense, it helps focus our attention and it signals hope for a better future - for us, for our clients and ultimately for the planet.
